News from the library team:
The Library Team met recently and scheduled their Beef and Noodle Fundraiser for Sunday, March 4th after the second service. We will be serving beef and noodles, coleslaw, rolls and bars. A free will offering will be taken. The proceeds from this year's fundraiser will go towards purchasing new materials for the library.
Last year the proceeds went to a flat screen TV and DVD player for the room. The TV is mounted on the wall which freed up wall space for another section of book shelves for the fiction area. The library continues to be well supported as shown by our circulation of books and materials.
The library team will not be meeting every month but as the need arises. If you have any suggestions of items we should consider for purchase, please let a team member know.
Current members are: Diane Miller, Kathy Evarts, Meghan Mensen, Barb Davis, Mary Lou Kimball and Jean Gross.
We are here to serve you.
Happy Birthday!

Beginning Experience is an ongoing program to help people navigate through the natural grief process after the loss of a spouse. We also minister to the separated and divorced as they also go through a grieving process.
The next Beginning Experience weekend (for those grieving loss from death, divorce or separation) is scheduled for March 16-18, 2012 at Shalom Retreat Center in Dubuque, IA. Contact Sara at 563-556-6501 or Linda at 563-255-2764 for more information or to register.
Maybe you could help me,
maybe I could help you.
I am looking for small boxes (no bigger that a boot box) to use for mailing purposes. I would also take any pieces of bubble wrap or packing peanuts that anyone would like to get rid of. Thank you! ~Rita Carney
Blessing Our Circumstances
Bless a thing and it will bless you, Curse it and it will curse you?.If you bless a situation, it has no power to hurt you and even if it is troublesome for a time, it will gradually fade out, if you sincerely bless it.
~Emmet Fox
What is the Pastor's Poor Fund?
These are funds that are donated to be used for individuals who find themselves in need or possibly a crisis situation. The church has been a source of hope for many as they have found themselves in unpredictable situations. This fund account gives the Mission Coordinator or the Senior Pastor available funds to help these individuals out in a hurry. If you would like to donate to this mission you can do so easily through your contribution envelopes.
Who Mentored You?
Invest in the Future, Mentor a Child
When you were younger, there may have been someone that you looked up to. It may have been a coach, a neighbor, or a friend of your family. This person, along with your parents, helped shape who you are today.
Youth in today's society still have a need for these informal mentors but some do not have access to positive role models. This has created the need for formal mentoring programs like those at Helping Services for Northeast Iowa.
The Mentoring Connection for Delaware County, Allamakee Mentoring Program, MY club (Howard County's mentoring program) and Building Bridges Through Mentoring (Winneshiek County's mentoring program) connect youth ages 5-16 with caring adults who can help them aspire, achieve , and develop to their fullest potential. Mentors become role models that make a difference in the life of a youth.
Mentors spend 4-5 hours a month for a year with an area youth. They can attend organized events together with other mentoring matches. Mentoring staff provide mentors with the support and resources they may need as they develop this important friendship. Becoming a mentor is one of the best investments you can make for the future. You just need to listen, show that you care, and share your experience.
To learn how you can become involved in mentoring, please contact Ellen Krogmann, Mentoring Coordinator (Delaware County) at Helping Services at (563) 379-3454 or ekrogmann@helpingservices.org you can also visit www.helpingservices.org
Book Review
The Reluctant Prophet
T. Davis Bunn
(Two volumes in one.)
The Warning
Buddy Korda is a mild mannered small town banker who receives a message from God, "It's coming in 41 days." And he must warn the world. Against all predictions that America is doing great - it really is headed towards historic collapse in "forty-one days." They need to move their money into "Put - Options".
The Ultimatum
Takes place 18 months later. Only the churches and people who heeded the warning have any security. Churches are buying failed property and turning it back to the people. Washington doesn't agree with this as churches are non-taxable. This could ne today instead of the 90's. Written in very readable language on home the stock market "is" worked and how things "get passed" in Washington.
Mr. Bunn was an international business executive before becoming an author.

Mission Coordinator
The new year is off and running. I would like to take this time to thank everyone for my most generous Christmas gift.
It is my pleasure to work for such a wonderful church and so many awesome members. I thank you very much. I would also like to thank everyone that helps with the mission programs. I could not do this job without you.
The mission team had a meeting in January. We put together a list of the missions that we will be supporting with the designated mission funds.
February.....................UMCOR
March.........................Greg Tyrrell
April...........................Midwest Mission
May...........................Youth Mission Trip
June..........................Iowa Construction Team
The date has been set for the Ice Cream Social! Please mark your calendars and plan to attend the Ice Cream Social on Wednesday June 13th 4:30 - 6:30pm. We look forward to seeing you there!
In the works:
A Bake Sale is being planned for April 7th from 7 to 11am. All profits from the sale will go to Second Helpings. As the date draws closer I will have more details to share.
I am also checking into a mission trip opportunity to Midwest Missions in IL this summer. I will keep you informed as I get more details.
We still have a few Monday dates to schedule friends or groups to work Second Helpings for the 2012 year. If you know of any groups that would like to help please let me know.
Our next meeting will be March 12th 2012 at 6:30pm. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Contribution Envelope Clarification:
The envelopes have a line item that reads "CORE Youth Program". Donations that are entered on this line, go toward the Youth Director's Salary. If you would like to make an additional donation to the program for things like; funds for the mission trips, upgrades to the Youth Room, etc., this needs to be noted on the "Other" line. For clarity~ include the #170 on the line as well. That number designates a different account than that of the Youth Program Salary Account. If you have any questions please feel free to call the office at 927-4439.
Winter is here!
Now is the time to pamper your wildlife friends!
We are selling squirrel food for your furry friends during the cold winter season. Purchase a $10 box of field corn and make a squirrel family very happy. This fundraiser relies on your word of mouth. So please spread the word! Contact Kelsey @ 563.920.9324 or stop by Sherman's Pumpkin Patch for your box today.
~A HUGE thank you from CORE Youth Ministry!
Skunked Again
A minister called the local sheriff to report a dead skunk in his driveway.
The harried sheriff said rudely, "We're too busy to be bothered by such trivial matters. Don't you preachers look after the dead?"
"Yes," came the dignified reply. "But first we notify the next of kin."
We are collecting Box Tops for Education, Milk Caps and Campbell Soup Labels throughout the year! Look for a box in the Narthex to drop off your donation. All those little coupons add up to great money for our children's schools. Thank you!!

Debbie Horton
(Sponsored by St Paul School of Religion)
Debbie Horton's spring performance is a must see if you love country music. She will perform on Saturday April 28, 2012 at 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM at Hanson Auditorium, Manchester. Tickets will go on sale starting February 1st.
MAGNETIC NAME TAGS
The week of February 5th I will be placing a third order for nametags. If you placed an order in Nov. or Dec. your nametag will be ordered at that time. If you have a name tag please remember to wear it. It is so helpful to the pastor and the congregation in getting to know each other.
These nametags are an attractive gold. The strong magnet holds through heavy fabric of a suit coat or sweater and there is no pin to snag your clothing.
The cost is $6.00 each and can be ordered by calling the church office at 927-4439 or Janine Stellick at 927-3485. Again the deadline is Feb. 6th. It will be quite a while before another order is placed. Thank you.
